WALKERS

In 1964, a group called the Walkers, from Maastricht, sprouted from the Mosam Skiffle Group, who had already made records since circa 1961. The first line-up comprised: Fred Limpens (v, g, tr, in 1967 solo as Freddy Cash), Jean Innemee (v, b, g, h, 'til 1975), Leo Steinbusch (tr, b, g), Maddy Bleize (dr, accordeon, ex-Maddy Bleize & Rockets, 'til 1977) and Conny Peters (o, p, s, fl).  In 1972, Rene Innemee (v, g, ex-Fresh Garbage) joined the group. He did the vocals on most of their hit singles.

In 1975, Jean was replaced by John Coenen (v, g, b, ex-East Avenue and Cash); in 1977, Maddy was replaced by Jan Franssen; in 1976, multi-instrumentalist Michel Nita (o,tr) joined the group. In 1978, Conny Peters went to Circle to be replaced by Walter Nita (ex-Chaplin Band). After Jan Franssen left, 1979 turned out to be a quiet year for the Walkers. In 1980, they came back to the scene as the Press.
