Portcullis Gate/Halo In My Hair (Deram DM 270) 1969
An obscure psychedelic/progressive outfit. Their album is now a minor collectable. Despite the date, it sounds like it's from a couple of years earlier.
Portcullis Gate veered towards progressive rock whilst its flip side owed more to early
Pink Floyd.
Farrell had previously been with Gun and many members had played with
Please. After they split Keith Cross and Bernie Jinks formed T2; Keith later turned up in
Cross & Ross.
Compilation appearances have included: "Portcullis Gate" on Rubble Vol. 12: Staircase To Nowhere (LP) and
Rubble Vol. 6 (CD); "Halo In My Hair" on Deram
Dayze; "Portcullis Gate" and "Halo In My Hair" on
Psychedalia - Rare Blooms From The English Summer Of Love; "Friday
Hill", a track from their album on Broken Dreams, Vol. 6.
